Jean-François (JF) Lamarque serves as Chief Climate Scientist at SilverLining, overseeing the Safe Climate Research Initiative, including the ARISE program, Cloud for Climate, and Climate Research for All. He also shares responsibilities for SilverLining’s Earth Information Programs for observing the atmosphere including the Platforms of Opportunity program.
With over 250 published papers, JF is a distinguished senior scientist specializing in leveraging models to understand the long-term changes of short-lived climate forcers such as ozone, aerosols, and methane. Previously, he directed the Climate and Global Dynamics (CGD) Laboratory at the National Center for Atmospheric Research until 2022. Before that, he held the position of Chief Scientist for the Community Earth System Model (CESM), a widely used global climate model. JF also chaired the Climate Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) and contributed as a Lead Author to Chapter 8 (Radiative Forcing) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Report 5 (AR5, 2013).
JF earned his Ph.D. from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium) and, before joining SilverLining, served as a Senior Expert at McKinsey & Company from 2022 to 2023.
