About Us
Our Mission
SilverLining’s mission is to promote safety for the world’s people and natural systems in the context of near-term (i.e. 30-50 year) climate risks. Our vision is a world that has sufficient information and options for all stakeholders to evaluate the potential for climate interventions to reduce near-term climate risks and impacts and to participate equitably in decision-making and governance on responses to climate change.
To achieve this, we seek to advance equitable and effective governance in democratic institutions, with a focus on driving research to support robust scientific assessment and to reduce disparities in research and decision-making capacity for developing countries and climate-vulnerable populations.
Importantly, while we focus on broadening the portfolio of responses to climate change to address near-term challenges, SilverLining promotes rapid, aggressive reductions in greenhouse gas emissions as a matter of urgency and a fundamental and essential priority for addressing climate change.
Our Principles
SilverLining operates on the basis of principles that embody our commitment to the belief that open research that informs evidence-based, equitable decision making processes is the most effective and just approach to addressing humanity's greatest challenges.
First, do no harm to emissions reduction efforts or the welfare of the world’s people and natural systems.
01
Promote international scientific, technical and political cooperation on near-term climate risk and interventions, with special emphasis on climate-vulnerable populations, Indigenous peoples and youth.
02
Prioritize underserviced drivers of uncertainty and inequity in near-term climate risk and response, including: the effects of aerosols on clouds and climate; the evaluation of rapid climate interventions; critical gaps in climate basic research and observations; and climate research capacity in the Global South.
03
Promote science-based assessment, governance, and decision-making on near term climate risk and intervention in democratic institutions, international multilateral frameworks and public science bodies.
04
Promote open science and data and the democratization of access to funding and tools for local and regional evaluation of near-term climate risks and impacts by global stakeholders.
05
Promote diverse collaboration and equitable influence on decision-making in our own work, with emphasis on incorporating the talent, expertise and leadership of diverse stakeholders from the Global South, Indigenous communities and youth.
